Misleadings in Doctrine and Living

1 Paul, ^aan apostle of ^bChrist Jesus ^caccording to the commandment of ^dGod our Savior, and of ^eChrist Jesus, who is our ^fhope,

2 To ^gTimothy, ^h my true child in the faith: ⁱGrace, mercy and peace from God the Father and ^jChrist Jesus our Lord.

3 As I urged you ^{▼▼ Lit while going to}upon my departure for ^lMacedonia, ^{▼▼ Lit to remain}remain on at ⁿEphesus so that you may instruct certain men not to ^oteach strange doctrines, 4 nor to ^{▼▼ Or occupy themselves with}pay attention to ^qmyths and endless ^rgenealogies, which give rise to mere ^sspeculation rather than ^t furthering ^{▼▼ Lit God’s provision}the administration of God which is by faith. 5 But the goal of our ^{▼▼ Lit commandment
,} ^winstruction is love ^xfrom a pure heart and a ^ygood conscience and a sincere ^zfaith. 6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to ^aafruitless discussion, 7 ^abwanting to be ^acteachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.

8 But we know that ^adthe Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 realizing the fact that ^aelaw is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and ^afrebellious, for the ^agungodly and sinners, for the unholy and ^ahprofane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 10 ^{▼▼ Lit for}and ^{▼▼ Or fornicators
,} ^akimmoral men ^{▼▼ Lit for}and ^amhomosexuals ^{▼▼ Lit for}and ^aokidnappers ^{▼▼ Lit for}and ^aqliars ^{▼▼ Lit for}and ^asperjurers, and whatever else is contrary to ^atsound teaching, 11 according to ^authe glorious gospel of ^avthe blessed God, with which I have been ^awentrusted.

12 I thank ^axChrist Jesus our Lord, who has ^aystrengthened me, because He considered me faithful, ^azputting me into service, 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a ^bapersecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was ^bbshown mercy because ^bcI acted ignorantly in unbelief; 14 and the ^bdgrace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the ^befaith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. 15 ^bfIt is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that ^bgChrist Jesus came into the world to ^bhsave sinners, among whom ^biI am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I ^bjfound mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might ^bkdemonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those ^{▼▼ Or destined to}who would believe in Him for eternal life. 17 Now to the ^bmKing ^{▼▼ Lit of the ages}eternal, ^boimmortal, ^bpinvisible, the ^bqonly God, ^br be honor and glory ^{▼▼ Lit to the ages of the ages}forever and ever.
